Here's an ethical question

for you to think about today while I'm working.

A luxury cruise liner is sinking in freezing cold North Atlantic waters in April.

There are about 2500 people on board. The nearest ship that could attempt a rescue is 150 nautical miles away and will take at least 3 hours to get there. A person can survive in the water about 6 minutes.

There are, say, a dozen lifeboats on board designed to carry, at maximum capacity - that's with the boat down to the gunwales - 75 bodies.

That means that at least 1600 people are going to die.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing for the people in one of the filled-to-capacity boats to beat off the frantic survivors with an oar, even killing them in the process, to keep the boat from foundering?

Please answer within five business years.

Well that's an easy question :) Considering that those "people" intent on bringing everybody else down with them have failed to accept their God-given fate with dignity and resignation, but have instead reverted to some primal selfish and irrational mode of behaviour which injures their human dignity, they should instantly be shot, in order to prevent them from further injuring their humanity. THAT would be the charitable thing to do. Your jesuitical-casuistry/hypothetical moral problem isn't that original, since we know how real men acted when the Titanic went down. Women and children alone were alowed on the lifeboats, and that is the way it should be. Unless you are some femi-nazi upset by the preferential treatment offered women. In that case she should drown with the rest of the men. O by the way, I know this has nothing to do with the video you posted and you were just being clever. There is, of course, no reason to prevent the immigration of people who are capable and willing to become active members of society. Immigrants who immediately go on welfare should be deported.

It's good.

Except Mexico isn't an icy ocean. Mexico could be a fine, decent, happy place to live.

Darfur is, however, a cold icey ocean, so to speak, in which the average lifespan often does not far exceed six minutes.

I'd take in a Darfurian.

but probably not, say, a million of them, which is the point, I think.

Can I trade them for a million Mexicans? That would be a good deal.

Yeah, I was thinking much the same thing when I was listening to this guy.

Huh, thought I, a million Mexicans. At least they won't come in and start blowing things up.

No, no, no, I want to trade the Mexicans BACK. You only think Mexicans would be better because they haven't peed on anything of yours.

Well, I don't have a fast enough connection for youtube, so I don't know what all this talk of Mexicans is about, but I would say, if you are planning to beat a man to death with an oar, or suchlike, and you are concerned about the morality of it, you need only inquire first if the man is a Presbyterian.

Presbyterians, as you know, are fair game.
